Cotton Queen

In a Sudanese village famous for cotton farming, Nafisa grew up on heroic stories about resisting the British colonizers, told to her by her grandmother, the village matriarch “Al-Sitt.” But when a young businessman arrives from abroad with a new development plan and genetically modified cotton, Nafisa becomes the center of a struggle over the future of the village. Nafisa awakens to the call to save the cotton fields — and herself. But will she, or her town, ever return to what they once were?
